Summaries About the Training Workshops
Anti-racism training, required in order to obtain and maintain standing in the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Ohio, takes place in the spring and fall of each year. Attendees gather for a day of training in which they learn basic definitions of racism, prejudice, and discrimination, watch videos that demonstrate the damage done by systemic and person racism, and shared stories based on their experience. Part of the training includes filling a timeline called the Wall of History in which participants write down instances of racism and resistance, beginning with colonial America and concluding in the present day. The day of training begins with prayer and Bible study and concludes with worship and prayer.
Ethical Boundaries Training
Because the position of minister in EVERY setting places the pastor in a position of power, this workshop explores how this power manifests itself in many different dimensions of ministerial life: profession, personal, sexual, and spiritual. For each of these dimensions there are boundaries of which we need to be aware and many we dare to cross for our own well being, the well being of individual congregants, and the well being of our ministry with the congregation we serve. We explore discussing these boundaries in a workshop setting so when they present themselves in our ministry setting, we know how to react in an ethical way. This workshop is required by the Commission on the Ministry for the Christian Church in Ohio and is offered in the spring and fall of each year.
