Invitation to Virtual Camp 2020!
Dear Ohio Region,
In late April, we shared the tough news of the decision to close Camp Christian for summer 2020 for the health and safety of all of those who are involved with our camping program. It was a devastating decision, but we knew it was what was right for us to do.
Since then, we have been hard at work developing programming and options to make available to the region. The directors and ADs from the various camps have been meeting and talking through what some of our alternative options could be and we are very pleased to announce that we will be able to provide online camp alternatives for all of our camp programs!devastating decision, but we knew it was what was right for us to do.
Our directors have done an incredible job of brainstorming, sharing resources, and coming up with some creative alternatives so that anyone who wants to will be able to share in our programs this summer! Using a virtual-camp portal, we will be sharing in camp songs, lessons, quest groups, keynotes, evening vespers services, and even hoe-downs, talent shows!
We will be following the condensed camp schedule that was provided at the beginning of April when we were exploring alternative options for camp this summer. It is as follows:
CYF – July 5-11
Chi Rho – July 12-18
Jr. Camp (Ribbit & Otter) – July 19-25
Advance – July 26-August 2
Most of the programming provided for the week of camp will include videos, music, and documents that will be available for you to use and view at your leisure, or even after the week is done. However, some of the activities will be held at specific times and dates (i.e. a zoom small group gathering or cabin meeting) so it will still be important to try and be available for your specific week of programming.
Those who have already sent in an RSVP to camp have already received this email. If you have not previously RSVPd, you will need to email email@example.com with the following information:
- Camper Name
- Grade the Camper just completed (or age if you are out of high school)
- Email address that is best to send log-in information for the virtual camp portal
When you send in that information, you will be registered on the virtual-camp portal. You will be sent an email to confirm your log-in information so that you can take part in the activities. You will also get a follow up email from the director(s) of your particular week to welcome you to your specific week of online programming. If there are any questions or if you need help with any part of this process, please reach out to Alan at firstname.lastname@example.org.
We know that it will not be the same as being at Camp Christian. But we also know that the spirit of Camp Christian is the Holy Spirit and that the ministry of Camp is not tied to the place, but tied to our hearts and our spirits of love and compassion.
In that spirit, we hope to see you all this summer. We hope you will share this opportunity with your friends. We hope the love of God that we know through Jesus Christ, which we come to feel at Camp Christian will still find its way into your heart in 2020. And we pray for continued health and strength that we may all be back together again next summer.
Peace and Love,
Rev. Alan Dicken

CHI RHO CAMP
Chi Rho Camp is geared to Jr. High/Middle School youth who have finished grades 6, 7, or 8. Through the study of the Bible in morning “Quest” Groups they seek out the Quest Truth for that day. Beginning each morning with cabin devotions they learn to begin each day with a look towards God and Jesus. The day ends with the whole camp gathered for a worship service and then a good night prayer we call the closing Chi Rho. The week ends with a special service known as consecration. Here each young person has on opportunity to make a private commitment to themselves about what they have experienced during the week and how they will carry the message forward. These “letters” to themselves are sent as a packet to the Local Church where youth leaders hand them back to them in late winter. All campers are invited to partake of the Lord’s Supper during this service regardless of where they are on their faith journey.
Chi Rho Camp can be the best week of your life. You'll do more in one week than you ever thought possible. Experience serious times of worship, Bible Study, prayer, and discussion in our Quest Groups. Enjoy fun times of swimming in our two pools, fishing, games, singing, talent shows, and campfires. Make new friends which may last a lifetime. Grow in your Christian Faith.
Each day Chi Rho Campers gather in Quest Groups during the morning hours (groups of 8-12 campers learning by studying the scripture, crafts and games); in Morning Prayers by Cabin Groups each morning; and in Evening Prayers each evening as a whole camp. The week culminates in an inspirational Consecration Service on Friday evening.
Each week the camps are blessed with outstanding Christian pastors and lay persons as Assistant Directors, Counselors (cabin, table, Quest Group) who engage with the campers in study, prayer, recreation, etc., befriending young people in a way that has an impact on their lives for good. The program is blessed by the time, talent, treasure, and love extended so generously by these devoted volunteers.
